Mission

We support research that addresses aspects of technology development, social trends or problems, ethics, and/or justice relating to the Internet. The goal is to encourage projects that help us better understand the intersections between technology and society, so that we might envision a more ethical and equitable relationship to Internet technologies as they progress into future.

We believe that the world and the technologies that sustain it should be constituted by multiple and diverse sources of knowledge. We aim to create a research program that represents the reality of Los Angeles as a global and diverse city. We encourage application by students who display a motivation to succeed in spite of prior challenges or barriers to participation in research or higher education, or whose life experiences and understanding of underrepresented groups inform their research topic or approach. Applications from diverse fields from physical and natural science, humanities, engineering, and social sciences, etc., that focus on social justice issues, ethics and promoting equality in the future of the Internet are all welcome.
